The average Hoosier working family in 2006 spent 4.1% of its income to pay its property tax. The average income tax rate equivalent that is required for individual income tax payers in each county to pay their property tax is computed in the following table. It is assumed that individual income tax payers in each county pay 77.5% of the county’s total property tax levy.
